We really need to stop letting WZ sleep with us. Luckily a few things have changed.

  1. He doesn't crawl around that much in his sleep.
  2. He's more likely to scream or slap us in the face then crawl over the bed.

That said.. him falling off the bed is still a very possible scenario. As is daddy rolling over him.

DSC02033

Cutting WZ's finger nails is a frustrating job. He squirms, turns, screams, runs away. That's why ensuring a proper hold on him is a necessity...

DSC02036

This hold pretty much stops him from doing everything except screaming.

This is why I bought a video camera for! And damn am I glad mine can be converted from the camera to the PC so quickly.

In this first video, mommy takes away the doorstop that WZ grabbed cause she couldn't keep it in frame. Check out what WZ does in return, both mommy and grandma had no idea WZ knew about that cause he never touched that before.

Day by day WZ gets stronger and stronger, first he climbs the short flight of stairs on the living room, then he started climbing up to the 2nd floor, all this climbing must be building up his strength cause he can pull himself up the sofa now.

We need to cater for people who don't read instructions.

So? Our application is supposed to encourage people that it's ok to do anything they want because they can't read simple instructions?

Well... it's been about 3 weeks with the U1010. Lets me do a quick recap of how it's been working out for me.

I've setup Onenote on the U1010 to sync with my Onenote notebook in my P1610. So now when I go out for meetings which don't involve having to show my code I just bring the U1010 which is easy to create around due to it's size.

If I miscalculated and need to access resources on the P1610, well as long as the net holds up, I just plug in my Dopod C730 make a VPN connection back to the office and then RDP into the machine.

At home due to it's size it's easy to take the U1010 and surf from the couch to catch up on some reading while putting WZ to bed. Like all things that have backlit screens and moving pictures, WZ is very attracted to it.

The U1010 is a great portable media player. As long as the file's locally stored of course. Wireless just isn't fast enough for high bitrate videos. Music is an interesting problem.. I used WMP 10 to sync out all the music I have in my various MP3 players and well... it plays but due to the slow hard disk on the U1010, there's an annoying near the end of each song as WMP10 caches the next song in line for gapless playback. Does anyone know how to turn that off?

I feel that my P1610 is big....

I think I'm gonna go blind soon...

Ok.. so net surfing speed is at an all time low, unreachable domains, server timeouts, the works! All evidence that something is wrong with the line... and yet.. everything NON HTTP related seem to be working fine, Live Messenger doesn't randomly disconnect as it usually does when in low bandwidth situations.

I can still get my game on very well on Xbox Live, so... what gives? Is there some conspiracy and all HTTP requests are being routed through a giant filtration service and someone's inspecting what to let through and what not to?

Then again.. it could be someone configured a switch wrongly at Suckmyx HQ.

On my on going quest to find ever crazier Micro SD card readers I stumble across this thing in All-IT Hypermarket in Lowyat Plaza today.

DSC02007

Doesn't look like much at first glance like this does it?

DSC02008

The only reason I bought this was because I thought it was smaller than the Kingston one which I got with my 2GB MicroSD. I was disappointed when I got home and found out that it's only a few mm shorter than the Kingston one. Even more disappointing is that the performance of the new reader is worse than the Kingston branded one, a MicroSD card which can be used for ReadyBoost in the Kingston reader is unable to do so in the new one. In case you're wondering readers that look like the Kingston one are also now widely available.

On the plus side the reader supposedly supports SDHC cards.

I also got this.

DSC02009

At first look it looks like any other MicroSD -> SD Adapter, until people ask "Why's the MicroSD slot at the side?" and "Why's the bottom part metal?" Well there's a good reason for that...

DSC02010

Yup... this thing is a USB reader as well! I saw an adapter like this a month back in Tech Ed, the guy got it with an A-Data MicroSD card and I was wondering how I could get one for myself. Well.. now I have it!

In SD Card mode it is still unable to perform magic and allow the MicroSD in the adapter to work as a ReadyBoost media. As a USB reader though, it does work as a ReadyBoosy media.

The packaging of this adapter doesn't indicate that it supports SDHC.

Wouldn't call any of these 2 things as a must buy be the SD card adapter is nice to have if you use your MicroSD in standard SD card devices and you need to transfer stuff on the SD onto a desktop regularly.

My MVP award package arrived today. Usually this contains some nice piece of swag. After the interesting desktop organizer from last year I wondered what MS would give this time around.

DSC01992

I guess te theme for this year is BLUETOOTH. From the top there's a pair of A2DP around the ear headphones, on the left of that is a Bluetooth A2DP transmitter, much like what I have. Then there's a Bluetooth dongle, and then there's a Bluetooth mouse... more specifically it's a Mogo Mouse! It's essentially a mouse in the shape of a PCMCIA card. I remember seeing this in the shop and wondering How the heck do you use a flat mouse? Turns out you don't..

DSC01993

You flip down a little kick stand, which gives it an angle and also acts as a power switch. Using the mouse isn't as bad as I thought moving a PC card around like a mouse would be, but then again I haven't use it much yet.

In case you're wondering.. yes, it runs on rechargeable batteries. Care to guess how it recharges? Yup.. you plug it into your PC Card slot. Ironically for me, the machine where this thing would be most beneficial to, is the Fujitsu U1010... which DOESN'T have a PC Card slot.

But it's a well thought out package this time around, interesting choice of gear picked.

I got a free official leather case for my U1010 when I bought it.

I think I repeated "You don't have one in black?!?" about 10 times before I finally gave up. No wonder they had to give it away for free!

I have this here bug...

DSC01991

My parents caught it in Genting Highlands and brought it back for WZ to look at.

DSC01990

As you can see, it's a BIG bug... would anyone like to pump it full of formadahyde and then make a specimen out of it or something? Or.. I guess if it's still alive tomorrow I should try bringing it to the Butterfly Farm in Lake Gardens and see if they want it.

The Butterfly Farm IS still there right?

Convertible PC computing since 2004... hmm... I need to bring out my old Acer to complete the picture!

From left to right :- Fujitsu U1010, Fujitsu P1610, Toshiba M200.

I really don't want to not have the convenience of a convertible screen, pen input after my first Tablet PC!

I've been having this cold that gets better from Monday -> Friday but come Sunday it just resets back to the original state and it's getting irritating. I guess this is the flu season since all around me I hear people sniffling, coughing sneezing. Just need to make sure I don't get WZ sick..

When you have a baby to take care of, it becomes a little harder to waste money on certain unnecessary things, but boy does it hurt when I see stuff I want and I know it's actually a waste of money to get it. Stuff like this...

I've been writing some AJAX code recently, and while the ASP.Net AJAX Extensions have helped make things easier a great deal, when it comes to a point where I need to do something advanced and extremely funky I have to write code to manipulate the document directly.

And that's when the nightmare starts... writing DOM manipulation code is like a roller coaster, you get the feature running in IE you mood is high, then you test it in Firefox and you find out you used functions which don't work in Firefox and you come crashing down to earth. Then you get code that works in Firefox, but has problems with IE.

Eventually you figure out what works and what doesn't and your JS file is just filled with IF statements ensuring that the proper code is executed for each specific browser.

I'm just lucky we didn't promise Safari or Opera support!

Saw a pair of Windows Vista updates that might be useful for people, I suppose these would get delivered by Windows Update eventually like the last pair I posted about.

First one is another with the generic title of "An update is available that improves the compatibility, reliability, and stability of Windows Vista" Funny title among the things which are mentioned that are improved are.. longer battery life.. and shortens startup time... hmmm..

The other is "Cumulative update rollup for USB core components in Windows Vista" I'm getting this one primarily because sometimes my USB devices fail after coming out of hibernation or standby so let's see if it does the trick or not.
