To add to my ever growing list of reasons why I should never EVER accept a project to make a Windows application meant for mass distribution instead of being used internally by the client company.

So... the program has finally made it to the UAT stage, and we're sitting together in the testing room and members of the test team are installing the program. Then one person says "It's telling me to install Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0" so I tell him to use the one which I had downloaded earlier.

Then he says "It's telling me I need to install Windows Installer 3.0". I looked at the screen, sure enough one of the prerequisites of the .Net Framework 2.0 is the Windows Installer 3.0 runtime. But the installer was kind enough to provide a link to the download. It's a small download, only about 2MB which is nothing compared to the .Net Framework.

Then he says "Aiyo... it needs geniue validation lar." I looked at the Microsoft Geniue Validation button that was showing on his screen, then I asked him what the problem is. "That means a lot of people will be unable to use the program. Can we work around this arr?"

I tried hard not to scream about condoning piracy, I shrugged, grinned a bit and kept repeating to myself.

This is the last time...
This is the last time...
This is the last time...

Ugh... this is the tough part, as if waiting anxiously through your wife's pregnancy isn't enough. Now I'm worry about when she'll go into labour. Will it be at night while we're sleeping? Will it be in the morning when I'm off site in Klang? How many false alarms before she actually goes into labour?

Usually I pack my notebook stuff for work in the morning, now I pack it BEFORE I got to sleep in case I need to rush over to the hospital at night! :P

OK, it's 2007 so here I go with the resolutions for this year.

  • Make sure I start 2008 saying I should have been a better father to my kid.
  • Only get one phone replacement this year and stick with it till the next. *gulp*
  • Make it through the year without one panic attack of running out of time on work. :P

Now for the resolutions that I know I can meet

  • Get a Nintendo Wii.
  • Get Halo 3.

Well, here we are at the end of the year.

Hmmm.. I'd check back at my new year's resolutions but I think I lost that post during the shift to the new blog this year.

Well.. I do know one thing I managed to achieve this year. I got a child in the oven, and it's ready to pop at any moment!

Hmm.. I wonder what I should set for my new year's resolution this time! ;)

Just came back from the gynae, and seems like it's almost go time! The baby is considered term sized, his head is already in position for delivery. Doctor says it could be anywhere from 3rd to 29th of Jan 2007. If nothing happens after 29th of Jan, well.. it's time for induced labour then.

Anyway.. I've already got a plan ready. Once it's time, again I'll change my MSN connection status message and then sign in and out again so that everyone on my friends list will know that it's time to.. poll this website every now and then to check up on progress.

Hopefully nothing will be wrong with Maxis GPRS then.

I wonder if they'll have power plugs for me... I wonder if they have wireless broadband access there?

I want to bring the video camera but my wife says she'd rather force a C-Section on herself than have me tape the process. We'll see about that... ;)
