It was a simple requirement, all I wanted was to get a baby monitor so that I could keep track of the baby while he was sleeping in the room and we were outside. In case you don't know what a baby monitor is, it's essentially a voice activated one way walkie talkie, you put it in your baby's cot and you can hear him when he cries. It's a simple piece of equipment! Or so I thought...
First I found some of those which costs almost 1k! I could get a pretty good pair of walkie talkies with that money, it's just a pity that voice activated walkie talkies usually needs a headset to work.
So finally I find a baby monitor that cost only RM195 at Toys R Us, I think to myself hmmm.. it's cheap but I guess it should do it's job right? it's such a simple piece of equipment!
So I get home I put in the batteries, I turn the monitor unit on, I turn the parent unit on, then I walk of the room. Hmmm.. the unit is very sensitive, it's picking up the fan noise... oh well.. I guess I can live with that. I walk over to my work area and I can hear quite a bit of static, cheap transmitter I thought. Then I put it on the table.
The exact moment I drop it on the table, a loud BEEP is emitted from the speaker and then all is silent. After the initial WTF moment I pick it up again, and the moment my hand makes contact with the unit it springs back to life.
Looks like I'm gonna have to test out Toy's R Us 7 day refund policy!
